Diane Arkenstone and David Arkentsone bring a variety of musical influences, from opera to punk, to this album and create pulsating and soothing music as heard on their respective solo albums. ECHOES OF EGYPT is part of the Adventure Cargo series released by Diane's label, Neo-Pacifica. The series aims at creating soundscapes evocative of far-away climes. Four of the five tracks on ECHOES OF EGYPT weigh in at over 10 minutes, allowing for sufficient immersion. "The Secret Chamber" begins the set with an intoxicating sway of lutes and percussion sounds. "Seduction" has a sultry propulsion inhabited by rich flute tones and oud-like maneuvering. "The River and the Sun" is full of a driving immediacy that at one point recedes to a chorus of voices. The Arkenstones' ECHOES OF EGYPT conjures an Egyptian air over sculpted synthesizer passages and programmed rhythms that has a heartfelt quality worthy of repeated listening.
