Description: This book covers what stem cells are, how they behave, and what promise they represent for future clinical interventions.
Purpose: The goal of this book is to provide investigators one resource for both background and current understanding of the various aspects of stem cell biology. In general, the book achieves its goals.
Audience: It is intended for senior investigators, research fellows, and graduate students. The authors are all experienced investigators working in this area of research.
Features: The book covers the major aspects of the field of stem cell research. Basic concepts and methodologies are also presented for readers who are not expert in the field. The content of the book is well chosen and well explained and the illustrations can be easily followed thanks to really clear legends. The chapters on the hematopoietic stem cells are particularly well presented. The properties of the hematopoietic stem cells as well as the clinical results achieved by bone marrow stem cells transplantation are well explained and documented in several chapters.
Assessment: This is a useful book. It is more than a compact overview of the field of stem cells. Each chapter contains adequate descriptions and sufficient references to allow the investigator to refer the original source.
