By the end of the 70s the music scene was looking for a new trend.
Punk was old hat and we weren’t yet ready for the modern romantics.
Enter Ian Page – a man with an attitude and more importantly a sharp suit.His band New Hearts evolved into Secret Affair and the mod revival was born.
NME and Record Mirror lapped up the image; those trendy clothes fans lapped up the threads. Time For Action and Let Your Heart Dance raced up the charts.
Mr Page appeared on that well loved BBC news programme Nationwide, extolling the virtues of the mod movement.
Plenty listened. Within months the charts were echoing to the sounds of the Lambrettas, Purple Hearts and Merton Parkas (whose biggest claim to fame would be sending Mick Talbot off to the Style Council).
The flame shone all too briefly. Within two years the music masses had moved onto Simon Le Bon.
Page’s new projects floundered but drummer Seb Shelton revived his career in Dexy’s Midnight Runners.
The Anthology isn’t so much a greatest hits as a completists collection for die hard fans.
