Simon Underground on Kraftyradio.com 19/2/08

Yes, I know that you've had to wait patiently for the download of this
show. We make no apologies for this whatsoever. Indeed, you're
singularly honoured to have this torrent published at all as the set
had to get through a rigorous quality control audit before Mark was
happy. And quite right too.

As it was all going off at UM HQ throughout the day of the show, what
you don't get this week is a typical review. I was barely aware of what
Simon was playing in the first hour; what I was aware of was the number
of listeners and the buzz of conversations going on in the Chatroom.
Listeners were having problems with continuity of stream as the
internet strained to accomodate the swarm. There was a tangible air of
anticipation, of expectation, of something special. And the fuse to the
powder keg was lit by the totally unexpected guest appearance of
Heretik at UM HQ. For anybody conversant with his tunes off the three
Genotype records in '97, you'll know that Heretik was (and remains)
heavily influenced by Bloody Fist. Two quality tunes from the
FORTHCOMING Genotype release were piped directly from his laptop into
the airwaves and they were lapped up.

A perfect opener for the advertised guest, being one Mark 'Bloody'
Newlands from Asbo Island. Mark N, the fiendish mastermind who with his
shady mates in Newcastle, NSW, Australia thought it would be a good
idea to inject hip hop into hardcore techno, make breakbeats
respectable and produce music programmed with a snarl on Amigas. Thus
was born Bloody Fist. In their 10 year reign, Fist tunes stalked the
earth and spat out the competition. Nothing touched Fist for attitude,
nothing. I listened to FISTC-12 'n of Terror' by Nasenbluten and
dissolved; I'd never heard anything remotely as intense as these
nutters. Few who have listened to Nasenbluten, Xylocaine, , Overcast,
Memetic, Fraughman, Embolism and/or Syndicate have. ...And then we have
to contend with the scratching magic that Mark N brings to turntables.
Fuck me, he's good. So much for that. And so much for the next 75
minutes, Mark spun tunes (most of which I don't know) in a mix that
superlatives fail to adequately describe or define. But the best bit
was 'Airstrikes'. Great, just great.

I LIKED IT AND SO WILL YOU.

Word.
