The plot is so simple it's stupid: Russian and Cuban forces have invaded the American midwest, so a bunch of scared high school students hightail it into the mountains, only to emerge as the vengeance-seeking commando unit known as Wolverines!

Red Dawn is not a terrible movie, but I'm a child of the 60's and it pushes all my buttons. I mean come on, it's got Commies and Nuclear War! Better yet, the Reds are invading along with those other Communist bastards the Cubans. We got Russian paratroopers dropping on Main Street USA in broad daylight. Whar's mah' Shotgun ma'? It's got every nightmare of the 1980's and a big pro-"Well Regulated Militia" message. It's all bullshit of course, but it's fun bullshit. It takes you back to the days of Ronny "Ray-Gun" with a heady dose of nostalgia. Makes me want to go dig a fallout shelter in the back yard and stock it with canned corn. Praise Jesus and pass the ammo!



See Red Dawn when you’re in the mood for a guilty pleasure. Snicker at the Ramboesque quotable quotes, and ponder the fact that ultimately America was able to conquer the Soviets even without the help of the Wolverines.
