Longtime fans of Jim White (the American singer, not the Australian drummer)
will welcome this live mini-album as an excellent memento of the manÆs dry,
witty stage presence, containing as it does typical between-song banter; but,
unusually for a live recording, A Funny Little Cross would also work well as an
introduction to White for the uninitiated, containing as it does, in a mere six
tracks, a useful showcase of his range. You have some spooky Southern gothic
(Stranger Candy), a yearning ballad (Jailbird), something a little funkier
(Counting Numbers in the Air), something a little bluesier (Alabama Chrome), an
unflinching examination of WhiteÆs own character flaws (Plywood Superman) and
some insightful and perception-shifting lyrics (Jim 3:16 informs us that ôa bar
