Description

This is a 24-bit/44.1 kHz transcription using high-end analog equipment of selections from William Byrd's Gradualia (1605), a collection of sacred polyphonic vocal works, performed by the 12-man ensemble Chanticleer. It was recorded in June 1986 in St Ignatius Church, San Francisco, by Peter McGrath and Robina Young, and released on LP by Harmonia Mundi (HMC 5182) in 1987. It was also released on CD, but that appears to be out of print.

It's a lovely recording of an excellent performance of music of the highest order. The LP transcribed for this torrent is in excellent condition, with just a momentary faint edge of tracking distortion every once in a while.

I have recently uploaded several other 24-bit LP transcriptions of comparable quality, and will be doing more in the near future. You can find them by clicking on my user id.

Equipment used for A/D conversion: Lyra Helikon phono cartridge, Linn LP12/Lingo turntable, Linn Ittok tonearm, Audioquest LeoPard tonearm cable, PS Audio PS2 preamplifier, Kimber PBJ interconnect, M-Audio Audiophile USB A/D converter.

01 - In Tempore Paschali - mass for five voices [18:21]

04 - Ave Regina caelorum - antiphon for four voices [4:33]
05 - Salve Regina, Mater Misericordiae - antiphon for four voices [5:07]

NOTE: To the best of my knowledge, this recording is not currently available commercially. If you know otherwise, please let me know ASAP, as I do not wish any artists to be deprived of the royalties that they so richly deserve.
