One of the PlayStation 2s most memorable games becomes an even richer, more rewarding experience--and a better game--in Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. This reissue of the original version adds one very significant new feature to the 2004 game, along with a brand-new online mode and loads of other great extras, including emulated versions of the old 2D Metal Gear games. The result provides more than enough good reason for series fans as well as new players to take the plunge. After all, one of the amazing things about Metal Gear Solid 3 is, even if you have spent a lot of time playing it since the game first debuted, it can continue to impress and surprise you the more you play.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence is the ultimate edition of MGS3. It comes on 3 discs, each of which is jam-packed full of extras and bonus features that will make you wish every game was treated this well.
Disc 1 contains the original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater with significant improvements - 6 difficulty levels (including one that ends the game if you are spotted by a guard even once!), a new camera perspective, camouflage, uniforms and a Demo theater, letting you watch all the individual cut scenes.
Disc 2 contains the very original Metal Gear and its sequel, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, both ports from the MSX console versions. There is also a Duel Mode that lets you play all the memorable moments and/or Boss fights from MSG3, the infamous Snake vs. Monkey game, a Secret Theater with some hilarious extras and, most significantly, there is a multiplayer section, featuring 12 separate maps inspired by sections of MGS3 in a variety of modes - Deathmatch, Capture the Frog, etc.
Disc 3 is a 2-hour movie compiled from all the cut scenes of MG3, which makes for a fantastic film. If you have watched something like 24 - The Missing Day, you will know what to expect, but it is a great extra.
All in all, this is the ultimate edition of an already great game.
