Frank Perry (Brian Cox) zit al jaren een levenslange gevangenisstraf uit. Wanneer zijn dochter, die hij nauwelijks gekend heeft, ernstig ziek wordt, is Frank vastberaden het goed te maken met haar, voordat het te laat is. Hij ontwikkelt een ingenieus vluchtplan en omringt zich met een groepje gevangenen die mee willen ontsnappen.
