Heavy Metal Junior: A Portrait Of Pre-Teen Rebellion
Meet Paul McArthur, who at the ripe old age of 11 is lead singer of heavy metal outfit Hatred. Paul and his four friends, Elliot, Michael, Liam and Robbie (average age 10 years old), originally inspired by goth rocker Marilyn Manson and more recently by AC/DC, Metallica and the great Led Zeppelin, are on a quest for rock'n'roll greatness like their musical heroes.
Of course, they still have to go to school in the wee village of Cambusbarron in Scotland, around which they squeeze in their band rehearsals and song writing sessions.
Inspired, cajoled and encouraged by Elliot's dad David, a professional vocal coach who has acquired the role of band manager, the group decide to put themselves to the test and play a live open air gig in Stirling. There's only one problem, they haven't any original songs. Undaunted, the boys get started on a little ditty called Satan Rocks.
Heavy Metal Junior follows their shambolic preparations for this gig as they battle with their song writing, their instruments, their parents and their ambitions for their band. These aspiring rock stars could be laughed at except for the fact that the boys are deadly serious about their band and their ambitions and they appear to be genuinely talented.
