In Disney's "Het Speelplein: De Grote Vakantie", een spannend, nieuw avontuur, vol vermaak en swingende muziek, komen de schoolkinderen van basisschool
"3rd Street School" in actie om de zomervakantie van alle kinderen in de hele wereld te redden!
Het einde van het schooljaar is eindelijk in zicht en TJ Detweiler kijkt uit naar de zomer.
Wanneer echter al zijn vrienden op kamp gaan, Mickey gaat zanglessen volgen en Spinelli wil nieuwe worsteltechnieken leren, is de verveling snel nabij.
Tot TJ een duister plan op het spoor komt om alle zomervakanties af te schaffen:
het krankzinnige ex-schoolhoofd, Dr. Benedict, wil een laserstraal gebruiken om het voortdurend winter te laten zijn.
Deze grimmige bedreiging van nooit meer zomervakanties doet TJ besluiten al zijn vrienden te verzamelen en ook nog eens de krachten te bundelen met
onverwachte bondgenoten zoals Juf Finster en de schoolstaf, om de schoolvakantie te redden.
Al snel ontdekken TJ en z'n vrolijke bende dat er een held in elk van hen schuilt.

as his friends (the other 5 protagonist children) are headed for Summer Camp. One day, while passing by the school on his bike, he notices a green glow coming from the school's auditorium.
This is the work of the insidious ex-principal of Third Street, Phillium Benedict and his gang of ninjas and secret service look-alikes!
Benedict is planning to get rid of Summer Vacation using his newly-acquired Tractor Beam, which he stole from the US Military Base in an effort to raise US Test Scores,
and it's up to the Recess Gang to stop him! In the end, TJ and the gang, with the help from the other students, Principal Prickly, Ms. Finster and the other teachers,
destroy the laser, Benedict and his henchmen are arrested, and the kids (TJ's buddies) decide to spend their Summer with TJ.
